First and foremost, our community events are a place to unwind, enjoy, and make friends.
SOS Community Events are a built on cultural exchange; they are de-politicized environments where community members of all perspectives are invited to experience and celebrate culture through food, art and conversation. We also provide opportunities for individuals to voice concerns, speak with the SOS team to receive informed responses, and take action if they wish to get more involved. Avenues for action include hosting an event, tutoring, or serving as a community ambassador.
Past programming has included cross-cultural cooking classes, dance workshops, and migrant-led lead discussions; all focus on the shared, vibrant aspects of our lives and histories, to provide a more holistic view of migration than the crisis- or burden- narrative that often prevails in our national rhetoric and imagination.
