Students of Salaam Migrant Scholarship
BEGINNING IN 2019, STUDENTS OF SALAAM (SOS) WILL HOST A NATION-WIDE SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE FOR 1 STUDENT ATTENDING A NOT-FOR-PROFIT 2 OR 4-YEAR ACCREDITED POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTION.
Students who are not US citizens are prevented from accessing federal aid for post-secondary study. Some states have enacted policies that enable such students to access state aid. However, this alone does not provide enough funding to provide students with the financial means to complete their post-secondary education (e.g. university or community college).
Our hope is to grow a scholarship (sans citizenship requirements) with donations and grants in hopes of fully funding a student’s post-secondary education. If you would like to donate to SOS’s scholarship fund please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tuition, room, and board are not the only costs incurred by students in university or other post-secondary institution settings. Often, students of migrant backgrounds must cover the additional costs of books, school supplies, healthcare, and supporting their family. Institutional and societal structures do not make financing a secondary education simple. We want to help provide migrant students with a path to education.
In the inaugural year of the scholarship, the recipient will receive $1,000 and mentorship by SOS’s diverse leadership community.
