Yeah. You read that right.

Most academic financial aid is only available for US citizens. We’re changing that.

Our national team provides mentorship and funding for ambitious students, no matter their paperwork. We’ve granted $3,000 in scholarships since our fund launched in 2018. Learn more >

Education & Community

No English?
No problem.

The U.S. pursues English-only immigrant education. This can isolate newcomers, and prohibit students from learning at grade level.

Our local branches offer tutoring for K-12 students—allowing students to learn in their native language and English—and host community events to strengthen ties between locals and their new neighbors. Learn more >

“In addition to financial support, the most impactful thing Students of Salaam has given me is this newly found confidence, because they believe in Dreamers like myself.”

We're all students, after all ...

Here’s a little more about us.

Students of Salaam (S.O.S) was founded in 2015 with the mission of improving education opportunities and community for every member of the American family. Our name “Students of Salaam” is a reminder that in life, we are always students — and we must strive to be students of peace.

Since 2015, we’ve focused specifically on immigrant education and community building in locales receiving refugees. During our first 3 years, we operated solely at a local level in New Haven. We’ve worked with over 500 K-12 students in New Haven, pairing them with Ambassadors who speak languages like Farsi, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Spanish, and French. We’ve also worked with over 200 community members. Read more here.

In 2018, we became a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization to scale our local efforts in New Haven to the national level.

To this end, we launched a national scholarship fund to support immigrants and refugees pursuing post-secondary schooling, as these students are often excluded from other sources of financial aid. And we continue to support our local New Haven chapter as we grow.

Now, our vision is to grow a vast scholarship endowment that can provide financial support for generations of immigrant students. Currently, we provide direct scholarships & 1:1 mentorship for our annual scholarship winners. We’ve supported 3 students to date. Read more here.
